Abstract
The study on communities water-bodies and parasites infestation was carried out between July and
October 2013.Eleven different public water- bodies were sampled in six different Local Government
Areas. The quality of different water sample examined for parasites isolation using protozoans’
concentration (formal saline and flocculation method) and formal ether techniques for helminth ova.
Out of eleven water- bodies, a total of 2672 parasites of both helminthes ova/larvae and protozoan
cysts/oocysts were isolated in both upper and lower course of the river. Ojoufu river in Dekina LGA
recorded the highest infection of 468 with means parasites species aboundance of 25% while the river
Omala in Omala LGA had the least infection of 70 with 22% means parasites abundance. The
physicochemical parameter was also conducted alongside to show the condition of the water and attest
to the laboratory examination of the water sample. Temperature ranged between 23.7 to 29.9°C,
Dissolved oxygen ranged between 0.2-19.9 mg/L.PH ranged between6.008-10.01,Electrical conductivity
ranged between 002-082 mV, Turbidity ranged between 0.00-15.0 and Depth between 1.5 m to more than
16.2 m. The overall data of the water parameter do not fall within the range of WHO standard for
suitability and hygiene. In view of data and parasitic infection in all the study areas, the public are likely
to be vulnerable to many of the intestinal parasitic disease .Hence there is need for a clarion call for
government aids and to educate water users.
