Abstract
In spite of the conscious efforts by successive Nigerian governments to reduce
poverty in the country, poverty incidence has been on the rise. This study,
therefore, attempted to examine NAPEP as a policy to eradicate extreme poverty in
the country. Personal interviews and documents were employed in data collection.
The data were analysed using tables, simple percentages and spearman rank
correlation. The study revealed, among others, that NAPEP as a policy aimed at
eradicating extreme poverty has recorded a mixed bag of limited success and
continuing challenges. It was, therefore, recommended that the policy should be reexamined
and possibly re-designed for effective performance
