Abstract
This report owes much to our colleagues at the State Bank of Pakistan, especially
Dr. Saeed Ahmed, Director of the Financial Inclusion Program. The data collection
would have not been possible without the guidance, onsite assistance, advice,
data provision, and expert statistical contribution of the Federal Bureau of Statistics.
The cooperation, assistance, and joint work with the Department for International
Development, FinMark Trust, Swiss Agency for Development and
Cooperation, and the Pakistan Microfinance Network have been invaluable. The
coordination and leadership of the survey work by Fatimah Afzal of PMN have
bridged the boundaries of the impossible in pioneering this major new data-
gathering exercise in the country. The ACNielsen (the survey house) staff, and
especially Faiza Jamil, have put in long hours of dedicated effort and diligence.
Finally, the team thanks all major Pakistani banks and other financial institutions,
who took time to discuss and brainstorm on pertinent issues, as well as various
stakeholder groups and especially the Pakistani men and women who patiently
went along with our enumerators during the pilot launch of the survey.
