Abstract
This paper aims to study the influence of the Economic Situation of the families
on the Academic Performance of the children of the secondary education of the
school of basic education "Alfonsina Storni" located in the sector of Puerto Arturo
Parish of Unamuno of Canton Ambato. Given the current crisis situation in the
country today, many families have been affected, especially those living in rural
areas, suffering economic problems, since most parents earn a salary below of the
basic, being thus a limitation to cover the basic necessities, reason why this study
has been realized. To that end, the grades obtained from the children in a global
form of each year of the secondary education were analyzed, as well as the
surveys applied to a sample of 76 students and 76 parents of the secondary
education, specifically to children and parents of fifth, sixth and seventh year of
Basic Education. Through varied statistical procedures obtaining specific results
that support the hypothesis raised according to the information previously
reviewed. Concluding that the relationship between the economic situation of the
families and the academic performance of the children is an empirically well
established fact, in the approach that the higher or lower the economic class and
the level of education of the Parents, the academic outcome of the children of the
families will be good or bad, in all academic areas.
