Abstract | Obesity can be described as an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure such that excess energy is stored as adipose tissue. However, obesity is also a complex medical condition, affected by a host of contributing factors, including genetic, physiological, socio-cultural and behavioural characteristics. This will be discussed in the context of South Africa, looking at the implications for weight management strategies |
