Abstract
This research provides empirical evidence of the labor relations for two population groups
in Colombia: women and the elderly population. Based on the contributions of feminist
economics, and the analytical scheme proposed by Jacques Gouverneur, it was found that
women's work is determined by their relationship with the production activities of services
for the direct satisfaction of the needs of their family environment and community circles;
participate more in non-market activities; "family responsibilities" is the main reason for not
seeking employment; and those that are self-employees work approximately 1.7 legal
working days. Furthermore, elderly population is mostly linked to unpaid production
activities; presents important inequalities in educational level, which could demonstrate the
absence of public policies that lead to overcoming economic dependence. Finally, age
discrimination in women begins at an earlier age than men.
