Abstract | Empirical studies provide evidence that microcredit has had positive impacts on the alleviation of poverty and the empowerment of women (Fairley, 1998; Tinker, 2000; Snow y Buss, 2001; McGuire y Conroy 2000). Women as economic, social and political change agents with the potential to act independently, invest productively and spend money wisely. By using Sen’s Capability Approach, Yunus experience with his Grameen Bank, experimental data and a semiestrutured questionnaire based, this thesis represents the interaction of women’s livelihood and microcredit focus in Medellin garment sector. Using a quasi-experimental investigation design, this research supports extensive literature finding a positive impact on microcredit programs due to increased income of its participants, spending, quality and quantity of food and education of children. As a result, this thesis finds that the lack of support from the government and the limited access to credit for women, make the transaction costs increase, affecting the repayment capacity of borrowers and limits the positive impact of microcredits. |
