Abstract | We analyze the implications of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Tanzania for labor markets and human capital accumulation. Over 1990–2000, we find a dramatic increase in labor force participation rates by 10–14 year olds. Over the same period, estimated education transition matrices indicate an increased tendency to exit primary school. These trends coincide with concerns about the implications of HIV/AIDS. |
