Background and objectives: higher prevalence of arterial hypertension has been associated with lower socioeconomic status, what can also take place in our country. This research was conducted in order to determine the prevalence and management of this disease at public and private sectors as a method of approaching the socioeconomic status of patients.
Method: randomly selected medical records of ambulatory patients in Maldonado, evaluating hypertension prevalence, indication of antihypertensives and normalization of blood pressure at public and private health care sectors
