Abstract
Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest levels of infant, child and under-five mortality in the world. Health of infants and children is of critical importance both as a reflection of current health status of a large segment of the population and as a predictor of health of the next generation. Good infant and child health will facilitate achievement of Millennium Development Goal of reducing by two-thirds the mortality rate of children under-five between 1990 and 2015.
