Abstract |
Through the study of population structure by age and by sex, as well as by place of birth and residence, using data drawn from Cameroon s 1987 population census, the authors explore the forms of spatial organization of demographic behaviors in the context of 49 of Cameroon s administrative districts. Their goal is not to describe the global differences between districts and create any sort of demographic classification. Rather, the aim is to study the spatial inscription of these differences focusing upon local exchange relations. The study s analysis therefore concentrates upon the relationships between contiguous districts, in order to identify the regions of the country in which the ties of resemblance and exchange are the strongest, and the dividing lines which correspond to the existence of strong demographic differences or weak migratory exchanges at the local level. Classes, regions, regional foci, and territorial limits; homogeneous regional foci and spatial discontinuity; analysis protocol for the Cameroonian context; demographic structures and migratory barriers; and immigration and emigration are among topics discussed. |
