Abstract
In Pakistan, unemployment among educated youth is a challenge for
government and society. Every year, universities are producing thousands of
graduates in different disciplines. Young graduates and their parents assume
that after completing higher education, will found attractive jobs, while in fact,
there is an adverse situation in the market. Society demands skilled individuals
who should be able to work in the global age, while majority of the university
graduates have degrees but no skill for the actual work place. While young
graduates argue that they learn what they were taught. The present study tries
to explore the factors which are responsible for unemployment among the
educated youth. It was found that use of technology, communication skills,
English language skills are the need of the hour, while young graduates are not
equipped with these skills. Moreover, lack of confidence, trend towards public
sector jobs, lacks of skills needed for business are some other factors
responsible for unemployment among educated youth.
