Abstract | For sound development, a child should be able to read, comprehend and write in the basic education system, corresponding to grade and age. In the early grades, children begin learning to read and gradually they should normally shift towards reading to learn. When children cannot read and comprehend well, they cannot get hold of subjects and most likely to drop out. Without people being literate, the society can hardly come out of vicious circle of poverty. Although number of children in schools has increased, children’s learning outcome has not improved significantly. |
