Abstract | The provision of affordable urban housing in Botswana is inadequate. The high population growth rate and rapid urbanization has resulted in housing backlog as housing supply does not commensurate demand. The shortage of serviced land especially in urban areas coupled with the excessive infrastructure costs has greatly hampered private developers’ efforts in the provision of urban in housing Gaborone. It is imperative that the government provide an enabling environment for all development entities. The study considers the current state of housing supply with the difficulties experienced especially at low income levels. The outcome is an identification of the typical problems causing such difficulties and initial suggestions to alleviate this. |
