Abstract |
Botswana is a semi-arid and water scarce country with a fast growing urban population. The private sector is an important actor for the urban economy to remain functional and competitive. This has to be supported by adequate water for all sectors of the economy. The contribution of private sector companies in Botswana, whose activities are water dependent to urban water conservation efforts have not been fully documented. This study set out to determine this role. It was found that most companies recognise that water in Botswana is scarce, and some have their own voluntary internal conservation schemes. However, these individual water conservation initiatives are not recognised and incorporated into the wider urban water management system in Botswana. |
