Abstract
This research is about a watershed in the Uluguru Mountains, where the upstream population
are small scale farmers and the downstream population are habitants of Morogoro Municipal.
The objectives of this research are to examine if it would create financial benefits to pay
farmers to convert to organic agriculture. This should first of all create a positive impact for
the downstream population since water quality and quantity will increase. Secondly, the
agricultural transition could help to increase the small scale farmers’ productivity in a
sustainable way which would lead to poverty reduction and strengthen the existing food
security for the up-stream population.
