    La Encuesta Nacional de Salud Materno Infantil de 2002 (ENSMI­ 2002) es la cuarta de esta serie de encuestas que se vienen desarrollando en Guatemala desde 1987. La planificaci6n de esta ultima se inici0 en marzo de 2001 y la ejecuci6n de la fase de recoleccion de datos comprendio el periodo desde abril a noviembre de 2002.

    La ENSMI-2002 es una encuesta por muestreo de cobertura nacional, representativa para cada una de las ocho regiones del pais y que tiene como poblacion objetivo:

    • Los hogares particulares y todos sus miembros residentes habituales en cada uno de ellos,
    • Las mujeres en edad reproductiva (15-49 anos de edad) identificadas como elegibles en cada hogar y
    • Los/las ninos/as menores de cinco anos de edad residentes en los hogares.
