Abstract
RESUMEN

Objetivo: Determinar las afirmaciones y uso de los derechos sexuales y reproductivos en las mujeres en edad fértil que laboran en mercados populares del distrito de Ate-Vitarte, Lima, Perú durante el período agosto-noviembre de 2009.
Material y método: Diseño descriptivo, prospectivo, muestreo aleatorio. Universo: fueron todas las mujeres que laboran en los mercados populares del distrito de Ate-Vitarte que además cumplieron los criterios de selección. Muestra: 290 mujeres. Se utilizó un cuestionario para la entrevista, directa e individual.
Resultados: La edad promedio de las encuestadas osciló entre los 20- 35 años, con educación secundaria completa. La mayor parte tenían pareja fija y eran multíparas. Con respecto al conocimiento de derechos sexuales y reproductivos, el 60% conocía su significado e importancia; el 77,2% había oído hablar de derechos humanos y el 69,3% sobre derechos sexuales y reproductivos; sobre esto último, el 48,7% manifestó haberse enterado en casa por algún familiar. El 90,6% no distinguía entre derechos humanos y derechos sexuales y reproductivos, considerando que eran lo mismo. El 54,1% manifestó que tanto hombres como mujeres tienen derechos sexuales y reproductivos, y el 57,2% que los adquiría desde el nacimiento. El 93,7% observó que es importante estar al tanto sobre los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, y el 97% dijo respetarlos.
Conclusiones: Las mujeres en edad fértil que laboran en los mercados populares, sobre todo las jóvenes, tuvieron afirmaciones muy apropiadas sobre los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, lo que les permite ejercerlos.

Objective: To determine the claims and use of sexual and reproductive rights for women of childbearing age working at popular markets in the district of Ate-Vitarte - Lima during the period from August to November 2009.
Material and method: We performed a descriptive, prospective, random sampling. Universe: All women who were working in the popular markets of the district of Ate-Vitarte-Lima and also met the selection criteria. Sample: 290 women. A direct and individual questionnaire was used for the interview.
Results: The average age of respondents ranged between 20-35 years, with complete secondary education. Most had regular partner, with coast-urban origin, and were multíparous. In respect to knowledge of rights, 60% knew their meaning and importance; 77.2% had heard of human rights and 69.3%, of sexual and reproductive rights. About the latter, 48.7% said that they had learned at home, taught by a relative. 90.6% did not distinguish between human rights and sexual and reproductive rights, considering that were the same. 54.1% stated that both men and women had sexual and reproductive rights and 57.2% that acquired them since birth. 93.7% also noted that it is important to be aware about sexual and reproductive rights and 97% said they respected them.
Conclusions: Women of childbearing age who work in the popular markets, especially girls, had very appropriate statements on sexual and reproductive rights, allowing to use them.
