Abstract
IDS. Different programs have been implemented to reduce their risk. School intervention, using STI/HIV/AIDS booklet is one of them to increase their knowledge. The objective of the study is to examine the effectiveness of the STI/HIV/AIDS booklet among the school students.
Data used from a research conducted by International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B). Altogether, 3757 students and 3477 students participated in baseline and endline survey respectively. This study compares the STI and HIV/AIDS knowledge among school students in two different years 2001 and 2002 before and after distribution of the STI/HIV/AIDS booklet.
The results show that the STI knowledge and HIV/AIDS knowledge increase in the endline survey. Males have more knowledge than females in both surveys. The older male adolescents have more knowledge than the younger adolescents in baseline survey. The older female adolescents have more knowledge compare to younger adolescents in endline survey. Thus, there is a need to use this booklet through peer educators, especially to increase the knowledge level among the female students. In addition, different versions of booklet should be developed for younger and older adolescents.
