Hinduism is the name given to the religious beliefs, practices and cultural codes of conduct of the Hindus. In the 8th century the Muslims invaded the Indian subcontinent from the northwest, and gave the name ‘Hindus’ to the people who lived in the land beyond the Indus River, predominantly the inhabitants of India.
