This study’s purpose was to evaluate a Home Based Care- project (HBC) in Zambia from the clients’ point of view, with focus on support groups and to present ideas that can improve the project’s interventions and increase the clients’ opportunities to improve their livelihood.
The questions in focus are; What do the clients’ livelihood look like? What are the project’s consequences according to the clients? What functions do the social support groups have? How can the project improve its work?
In line with the sustainable livelihood framework and the stress-buffering theory an HBC project in Livingstone, Zambia, was evaluated. The study has a qualitative point of departure and semi-structured interviews were conducted mainly with clients and carefacilitators in the project.
The result shows that social support groups have many important functions in the clients’ lives. Furthermore, the result shows that the clients receive relevant support from the project, which mainly influences their human and social capitals. Their needs are however not fully covered. Therefore additional support, targeting both other capitals and on improved activities, would make their livelihood more sustainable and increase their buffer in stressful situations.
