Abstract
The Social Protection Floors Recommendation 2012 (No. 202) is a framework adopted by the International Labour Conference in 2012 to extend the coverage of social security systems. This recommendation, which provides a mechanism for scaling up social protection for older persons in Zimbabwe, is a particularly welcome development given that existing social security schemes do not reach the majority of older persons in need of income support. Introduction of a universal old age pension would thus help to extend coverage to many older persons who need income support.
