Abstract
A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted on randomly selected 17 non-formal schools and 2 formal schools in Korogocho and Kariobangi slums, a total of 19 schools covering a pupil population of 557(5 pupils per grade) were surveyed. The total population of the pupils at the surveyed schools was 7214 with 2958 boys and 2827 girls. Of these 3456 were from non-formal schools whereas 3758 were from the formal schools. The survey included children from grade 1 to grade 8. Eighty (80) teachers were interviewed. Focus groups discussions of teachers at each school and the PTA were held.
