Abstract
The dramatic declines in fertility reported in surveys undertaken during 1980s and 1990s have not been sustained and based on the results of the 2003 Kenya Demographic and Health Survey, fertility and contraceptive use appears to have either stalled or could be rising. These national trends, moreover, conceals significant sub-regional and socioeconomic variations that are critical for understanding the underlying patterns and relationships (Westoff and Cross, 2004; CBS, et. al.2004)
