This article presents the results of measuring intergenerational educational mobility in urban and rural areas in Colombia.
Using transitional matrices, it was found evidence of intergenerational educational mobility in both urban and rural areas in
Colombia, which, however, is more restricted for the case of rural zones. In fact, the possibility of scaling higher levels of
education is greater for children with parents with higher education, and it is stressed if they belong to urban areas, which
means that educational opportunities in Colombia are limited, not only by the conditioning of the educational level of the
parents, but also by the area to which persons belong.
