Abstract
Objectives:
To compare the quality of life related to health of institutionalized elderly in nursing
homes and non-institutionalized in Tepic Nayarit.
Methods:
This was a descriptive observational
study in older adults in the city of Tepic, Nayarit. There were two groups, to evaluate the quality
of life the questionnaire World Health Organization Quality of Life of Old people was used,
consisting of a total of 24 items rated on a 5-point Liker scale, divided into six facets, for
comparison of proportions were Student's t-test (p <10).
Results:
The global results of WHOQOL-Old were IN 61.4±11.9 NIN 70.1±11.4. The best-rated facet in both groups was DAD with 86.05±15.4 IN and 76.9±25 for NIN. The next best score in IN was PPF 60.7±18.8, while
SAP was for NIN (74.5±21.5). The facet with the lowest score in both groups was IN SOP
52.4±21.5 and AUT 53.6±18.9, for NIN: SOP 62.8±20 and AUT 62.8±17.1.
Conclusions:
There is needed a training of those who are involved with institutionalized people for developing
strategies to promote improvements in the aforementioned aspects that affect QLRH.
