In this paper we use matching techniques to estimate the impact of product mix
changes on total factor productivity among Chilean plants using annual data for the
period 1996-2003. We use unique plant-products data to identify product mix
changes. Results suggest very week evidence of a positive impact of product
innovation on productivity. We find though a strong impact of product mix
changes on the current and subsequent growth of plant sales and inputs.
