Abstract
In thispaper,a study on the various indigenousmaterials used forthe construction ofthe traditionalhouses
ofMyanmar ismade, The aim ofthe study isto collect the basicdataforfurtherstudy about the influencesand
effects ofthe use ofindigenous buildingmaterials on the human comfbrt insideofthe houseincorrelation with
theenvironment and weather condition, Detailinvestigation ismade en the villages of some races; Bamar,
Mon, Shan and Inn-thar.
The authors show the typeofstructure ofhouse inMyanmar and characters ef the investigatedhousesbased
on the fieldworksand questionnaire, which are locatedat ten traditionalvillages and a new developedtown,
Variouskindsofwood and bamboo used forconstruction materials and leavesand grassesused forroofing are
shown as the cornmon indigenousmaterials. Actual conditions of the indigenousmaterials used forstructure,
roofing, flooringand walling in each village and new town are clarified.
