Abstract
The Compressed Earth Blocks (CEB) are environmentally –friendly and lowcost
energy materials for sustainable building applications in many
Cameroonians regions.
Therefore studies were carried out in 22 exploited lateritic soil quarries, 10 in
Douala and 12 in Yaounde, Cameroon. The objective of this study was carry
out an inventory of the various building potentials of low energy stabilized
earth blocks in these cities. The studies carried out were: the location and
estimation of the volume of exploitable deposits, the particle size less than
2mm of each sample were evaluated as well as testing the stabilization of each
soil sample at 4%, 6% and 8% of CPJ35 cement. The majority of soils
collected from quarries in Yaounde have very coarse grain size and
granulometry curves that divert from the zone of soil texture. On the contrary
soils collected from quarries in Douala are more or less sandy and are found
within the zone of texture. The minimum rate of stabilization of these soils
with CPJ35cement is 6% for most of the soils of Yaoundé and Douala. The
entire volume content of these soils exceeds 20million m3
and can be used to
construct over 363300 type T4 house units.
