Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The FAO has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched a household survey between February 3 and March 27, 2023 in the Central African Republic. Data was collected through a CATI survey in 17 prefectures: Bangui, Bamingui-Bangoran, Basse-Kotto, Haute-Kotto, Haut-Mbomou, Kémo, Lobaye, Mambéré-Kadeï, Mbomou, Nana-Mambéré, Nana-Gribizi, OmMbella-M'Poko, Ouaka, Ouham, Ouham-Pendé, Sangha-Mbaéré, and Vakaga. A total of 3,710 households were surveyed by telephone. The survey is representative at the prefectural level, and the sample design was developed with a margin of error of 8.5 percent. CROP PRODUCTION: crops planted, area planted, area harvested, crop production difficulties.
CROP MARKETING: crop sale difficulties, crop sale price.
LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION: types of livestock present on holding, number of livestock, livestock production difficulties.
LIVESTOCK MARKETING: livestock sale, livestock sale difficulties, livestock sale price.
FISHERIES PRODUCTION: fish activity, comparison of fish production.
FISHERIES MARKETING: fish sale, fish sale difficulties, fish sale price.
FOOD SECURITY AND CONSUMPTION: food consumption, food utilization, comping strategies.
NEEDS ASSISTANCE: open questions on the needs for assistance.

Sampling
Data was collected through computer-assisted telephone interviews in 17 prefectures: Bangui, Bamingui Bangoran, Basse-Kotto, Haute-Kotto, Haut-Mbomou, Kémo, Lobaye, Mambéré-Kadeï, Mbomou, Nana-Mambéré, Nana-Gribizi, Ombella-M'Poko, Ouaka, Ouham, Ouham-Pendé, Sangha-Mbaéré and Vakaga. A total of 3 710 households were interviewed, an 87 percent increase in the sample size from the previous round conducted in October 2022. The survey is representative at the prefectural level, and the sample design was developed with a margin of error of 8.5 percent. Data collection took place during the dry season, although heavy rainfall was observed during the survey.
Observations were weighted for demographic population by province.
Survey instrument
The dataset was anonymized using Statistical Disclosure methods by the Data in Emergencies Hub team and reviewed by the Office of Chief Statistician at FAO. All direct identifiers have been removed prior to data submission.
In addition, recoding and local suppressions were applied to ensure data confidentiality. Recoding was especially applied to the variables on education status, source of light, toilet type and water source.

Data processing
The datasets have been edited and processed for analysis by the DIEM team at the Office of Emergencies and Resilience, FAO, with some dashboards and visualizations produced. For more information, see https://data-in-emergencies.fao.org/pages/countries.

Micro datasets disseminated by FAO shall only be allowed for research and statistical purposes. Any user which requests access working for a commercial company will not be granted access to any micro dataset regardless of their specified purpose. - Any results derived from the micro dataset will be used solely for reporting aggregated information, and not for any specific individual entities or data subjects;
- The users shall not take any action with the purpose of identifying any individual entity (i.e. person, household, enterprise, etc.) in the micro dataset(s). If such a disclosure is made inadvertently, no use will be made of the information, and it will be reported immediately to FAO;
- The micro dataset cannot be re-disseminated by users or shared with anyone other than the individuals that are granted access to the micro dataset by FAO.
