This variable describes the place of birth of a person as transcribed in the enumeration form.
For those born in Scotland, the country and town, or parish was to be provided. Those born in England, Wales, or Ireland, were to provide the name of the county. Those born in any other part of the British Empire were to provide the name of the Dependency, Colony, etc. and of the Province or State. Those born in a foreign country were required to write the name of the country. For those born at sea, the required response was "At Sea".
