How to formulate the question<br /><br />Do you know how to read and write?<br /><br />The following definitions will help the enumerator to investigate this question.<br /><br />Literate: The person who knows how to read and write a simple paragraph in Spanish or in another language.<br /><br /><span class="pg">[p. 73]</span><br /><br />Illiterate: The person who does not know how to either read or write, or who only knows how to read or can only write his or her name (signature).<br /><br />2. How to record the data<br /><br />According to the answer, the number "1. yes" or "2. no" is circled.
