Interviewer instructions
<span class="h2">7.11 Battery IX. Work history</span>
<br />This battery of questions focuses on inquiring about the characteristics of the last job that was lost or left in the interviewed population, such as: context in which this situation occurred and the time frame (if it occurred during the current year or in prior years), the cause, type of occupation that was performed, the type of activities to which the economic unit for which the person worked was dedicated, the type of employment benefits, income received and current availability of economic income derived from that lost employment relationship, in order to assess the quality of that job in relation to the most recent one.</p>
<p>This battery of questions distinguishes three types of sequences; two of them are aimed at subordinate workers, with a view toward identifying those who lost their job due to difficulties centered more on employment conditions of the market and by their own decision, respectively; and the third sequence identifies the main reasons why independent workers left or lost their business or activity.</p>
<p><span class="em">Question 9c</span>
<br />This question is asked to employed and unemployed persons with work experience who in question 9b stated they had lost their job because their employment contract was not renewed, they were not called back to work or they were fired, to find out the reason why the economic unit no longer required their services.</p>
<p>[Omitted figure]</p>
<p>Instructions:</p>
<p>Listen carefully to the informant and classify it in the corresponding option.</p>
<div class="i1">- Do not accept ambiguous responses, such as: couldn't go anymore, change of residence or address. In the case of such responses, first, you should inquire what or who prevented them from continuing to work: an illness, a relative, lack of transportation to get to work; the second response may involve causes, such as the fact that the income was low, or that the work did not permit professional growth; the last response is also not precise, since it does not clarify who moved, the person or the economic unit.<br />- If, when obtaining the information, you realize it is not a subordinate worker but rather an independent worker, return to question 9a and correct the sequence according to the informant's response.</div><div class="i1">1. Labor dispute and/or union conflict</div><div class="i2">- They lost their job because a dispute arose between a group of workers and the economic unit, for example, disagreement with the overtime pay, salary level for the performance of similar work.</div><div class="i1">2. Conflict with the boss or superior</div><div class="i2">- They had some work or personal conflict with their superiors or with their coworkers, due to workplace harassment, psychological abuse, mistreatment or another reason.</div><div class="i1">3. Lack of qualifications or training</div><div class="i2">- Their skills and knowledge were insufficient for the performance of their duties: they did not have the education or work profile required for the economic unit for which they worked.</div><div class="i1">4. There was no more work</div><div class="i2">- The work or employment contract, social service period, busiest work season ended: December holidays, harvest, school vacation, or because there are no more clients or sales decreased.</div><div class="i1">5. Noncompliance with the company</div><div class="i2">- They did not respect or comply with the standards established in the economic unit, such that they could no longer continue working there. In this situation you may find those who arrive late, do not show up to work.</div><div class="i1">6. Discrimination due to physical appearance</div><div class="i2">- In the economic unit, their physical appearance was not considered appropriate for the work that was being performed.</div><div class="i1">7. Age (young or old)</div><div class="i2">- Their age was considered too young or too old than what was required to do the job they were performing.</div><div class="i1">8. Illness or disability</div><div class="i2">- They became sick, had an accident or faced a physical or mental disability that prevented them from fulfilling the requirements of the economic unit for which they worked.</div><div class="i1">9. Pregnancy and/or maternal responsibilities</div><div class="i2">- They found themselves in any of these types of situations. In the case of family responsibilities, it may involve men or women who are responsible for this work: child care, care for a sick person, reuniting with the family.<br />- Because a family member did not allow them to continue working or due to marriage.</div><div class="i1">10. None of the above</div><div class="i2">- Those who lost their job for a reason other than those mentioned in the preceding options.<br />- Sequence to follow. Regardless of the option you circle, go to question 9f.</div>
