<br />In this section, the sociodemographic information of the members of the household in the selected home is obtained. The type of information collected varies based on the different age groups and sex of the people subject to the study, as shown on the following chart:</p>

<br />This question is asked to women 12 years or older to identify the total number of live-born children they have had.</p>

<p>Children born alive. Product of the woman's pregnancy that, upon leaving the mother's womb, presented any signs of life, such as breathing, crying or movement, even if the infant died immediately thereafter.</p>
<p>Instructions:</p>
<div class="i1">- How to ask the question. Read this question naturally, especially if you are interviewing an adolescent. If you notice that the informant is surprised or uncomfortable, tell her you are asking this question to all women because sometimes they have children at a very early age.<br />- Total number of children. Ask for the total number of children born alive to which she has given birth at the time of the interview, even if they no longer reside in the home or have died. If necessary, tell her to exclude counting adopted children and stepchildren.</div><div class="i1">- How to record the information. Use two digits to enter the information, therefore, if a woman had 1 to 9 children put a zero first to report the number. If the response is that she has not had any children, enter two zeros. If an informant refuses to provide the information or ultimately says she does not know, enter code 99.<br />- Sequence to follow. Regardless of information entered, continue with question 19.</div>
