Interviewer instructions
<span class="h2">7.5 Battery III. Work context</span>
<br />Starting with this battery of questions and up to six, the information you obtain will refer exclusively to the main job of the employed population, such that it could have been performed during the reference week or they could have been absent from it, but with return assured.</p>

<p>The purpose of this battery of questions is to identify the person's position or job, their title in the occupation, the size of the economic unit and how long they have been on the job, among others. In addition, based on title in the occupation, the purpose will be, in the case of:</p>
<div class="i1">- Independent workers, identify their level of autonomy and the line of their activity.<br />- Subordinate workers, identify whether they have a written contract and access to employment benefits, as well as the form in which they accessed their job.</div><span class="em">Question 3q</span>
<br />[Omitted figure]</p>

<p>This question is asked to subordinate workers to identify the size of the establishment, through the number of people who work there.</p>

<p>Conceptual clarifications:
<br />The criterion to identify the size of the establishment where an interviewee works through the number of workers who are physically there or who depend on that establishment in particular, applies for economic units in both the private and public sector.</p>

<p>Instructions:</p>
<div class="i1">- Classification of subordinate workers. If the interviewee is a subordinate worker, tell them to count all the employees who work for the establishment, business or company, including the owner. If an economic unit is comprised of two or more establishments, ask the interviewee to count only the number of workers where they are working.<br />Example:</div><div class="i2">- Giovanny (interviewee) works for the cafeteria "El Cafetal", the business is in two premises located at different addresses, but he works in the downtown premises. In both locations, 12 people work. In this case, you only have to identify the number of people who work in the premises where Giovanny works.</div><div class="i1">- Non-profit organization workers. When the information indicates that a person works in a civil organization, such as unions, coalitions, federations, verify that only the administrative personnel who work in the offices have been counted, excluding members or enrollees.</div><div class="i1">- Size of the establishment when the workers work outside of the facilities of the economic unit that hired them. This is the case, for example, of workers in security guard services, those who do sanitation and cleaning, collectors, transporters. In this type of situation, identify the size of the establishment based on the number of workers who work for the economic unit that hired them.<br /><br />Examples:</div><div class="i2">- Alicia works as a receptionist in a laboratory located in the building "The Medical Tower", where primarily specialty doctor's offices are located; two clinical laboratories and some accounting and legal consulting firms. Since she works in the clinical laboratory "medical center", you should only ask how many people work in that laboratory.<br />- Mr. Buenrostro works for the state Secretariat of Tourism. In the same building, there are personnel of the State Medical Arbitration Commission, the INEGI and the Secretariat of Treasury. In this case, you should only identify the personnel from the state Secretariat of Tourism.<br />- Esther monitors access to the INEGI facilities; she works for an independent company that provides private security services. Ask how many people, including the administrative staff, work for the security company.<br />- Marcos works together with fifteen other operators for a transportation company that has branches in different parts of the country. Count only the workers who work at the branch for which Marcos works.<br /><br />- The number of workers varies based on the time of year. Given responses like these, ask how many workers usually work during the time of year in which you are conducting the interview. You can adapt the question saying: "Usually, this time of year, approximately how many people, including the owner, work where Eduardo (interviewee) works?"</div><div class="i1">- Employee of a subordinate worker. If a person works (with or without pay) for a subordinate worker, as an exceptional case, count only the workers who work for the subordinate worker; note that this person has become the employer of the former.</div><div class="i1">Example:</div><div class="i2">- Sixto (interviewee) was hired by José (subordinate worker who works as an accountant in an accounting firm where 12 people work) to help him organize the data. Sixto's salary comes from Jose's "pocket", not the company's; therefore, you should circle option 02, that is, consider only two people to make up the economic unit for which Sixto works.</div><div class="i1">- Classification of domestic servants. Circle option 01 one person, only in the case of a domestic servant working in the domestic unit.<br /><br />Exclude from option 01 those domestic servants who work in the employer's private home, despite being on the payroll of the employer's company or business. Count them as a member of the employer's economic unit.<br /><br />Examples:</div><div class="i2">- Although Servando is a full-time private driver for a family, he is registered on the payroll of a government institution. In this case, ask how many people work in the establishment of that governmental agency.<br />- Amalia is a cook in a private home (and resides there), but her employer included her on the payroll along with more than 250 workers in his/her company. In this case, circle option 10.</div><div class="i1">- Establishment size unknown. If the response is that the total number of workers is unknown, read to the informant, as an example, some of the ranges considered in the options to obtain the most precise response possible. If they continue to respond that the information is unknown, circle the option with nines.<br />- Sequence to follow. Regardless of the option you circle, continue with question 3r.</div>
