<p>This section deals with the economic activity of all who are 15 years old and over. Questions 23 to 24 apply to those answering [30] in Question 22.</p>

<span class="h3">Section 6 - Economic activity</span></p>
<p>The main purpose of this section is to determine which individuals have been engaged in economic activity, that is, the production of goods and services during the week preceding enumeration and at any time during the past 12 months and those who were not so engaged. It is essential that the enumerator understands the concept of the term work as given in question (22) and makes use of it in his interviews.</p>
<p><span class="em">Question 25 - Type of worker status</span></p>
<p>This question is to be answered by all persons in the labour force both employed and unemployed. This question is also to be answered by those individuals indicating boxes 46 to 99 in question 23 and having responses in boxes 1 to 5 in question 24. For these individuals classify by where last applied for a job.</p>
<p>It also distinguishes between persons who:</p>
<div class="i1">Worked for others as employees (e.g. public service and state enterprises; non-government workers; unpaid workers and learners); and<br /><br />Those who had their own business or farm and employed others (paid or unpaid);</div><p>Obtain the correct information and tick the appropriate box.</p>

<p>You are to check your list of the names of state enterprises if in doubt, in order to assist respondents who work for government but are unsure whether, it is the public service or state owned enterprise.</p>
<p>Types of worker status are categorized as follows:</p>
<p><span class="em">1. Worked for others</span><div class="i1">(a) Statutory boards and similar bodies<br /><br />For Example:<br />The National Housing Authority,<br />The National Lotteries Control Board,<br />The Princess Elizabeth Home for Handicapped Children, The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago,<br />The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago and<br />The Public Transport Service Corporation.<br /><br />(b) State owned enterprises<br /><br />For Example: <br />Caroni (1975) Ltd.,<br />National Petroleum Marketing Company, National Quarries Limited,<br />National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited,<br />First Citizens Bank,<br />Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited and National Flour Mills.<br /><br />(c) Central / local government<br /><br />Central government workers will be found in the Ministries and departments of government.<br /><br />Local government workers will be found in the City corporation, Borough Corporation and Regional Corporations.<br /><br /><span class="pg">[p.48]</span><br /><br />(d) Private enterprise<br /><br />These workers will be found in privately owned companies such as: <br />West Indian Tobacco Company,<br />Lever Bros. (WI) Ltd., <br />Trinidad Match Factory and<br />Coosal's Construction Company Limited.<br /><br />(e) Unpaid worker<br /><br />These are persons who work without pay but whose labour contributes to the operation of the business or farm.<br /><br />(f) Learner / apprentice<br /><br />This is a person who goes to work regularly and is learning a job or trade. Persons in this category may or may not receive an income.</div><span class="em">2. Own account worker</span><div class="i1">This is a person who operates his/her own (economic) enterprise or is engaged independently in a profession or trade and hires no employees or paid help. However, he may run the business with unpaid help.</div><span class="em">3. Employer</span><div class="i1">An employer is a person who operates his/her own (economic) enterprise or engages independently in a profession or trade and hires one or more employees.</div>
