Interviewer instructions
Items 18 to 20: Has any member used the following services in any Post Office during last 3 months account (yes-1, no-2, don’t know-9): In items 18 to 20, information will be collected on whether any member of the household has used any of the specified services in any Post Office of the Department of Post, Government of India, during the last 3 months. If any household member has used any of the specified services during the last 3 months entry will be 1 and entry will be 2 if no member of the household has used any of the specified services during the last 3 months. On the other hand, if the informant reports that he/she does not know whether any member of the household has used any of the specified services during the last 3 months entry will be 9 against that item. The household member can avail of these services in the capacity of either as a sender of money or as a receiver of money. A brief description of the specified services on which information will be collected is given below:
i) Money order: A money order is an order issued by the Post Office for the payment of a sum of money to the person in whose name the money order is sent through the agency of the Post Office.
ii) Instant Money Order: IMO is an instant web based money transfer service through Post Offices (IMO Centre) in India between two resident individuals in Indian territory.
iii) International Money Transfer Service: As a result of the collaboration of the Department of Posts, Government of India with the Western Union Financial Services, USA, a state of the art International Money Transfer Service is now available through the Post Offices in India, which enables instantaneous remittance of money from nearly 185 countries to India.
