Water supply: What is the main source of drinking water for this household?</span><br /><br />The focus of this question is the main source of drinking water available for the use of the household.<br /><br />Sometimes there is a standpipe in a house but only some households are entitled to use it. Where a household is not entitled to use the standpipe in the house but has to draw its water<br /><br /><span class="pg">[p. 54]</span><br /><br />from other sources e.g. well or stream, the appropriate source of drinking water must be captured.<br /><br />1. Pipe-borne inside: This includes water piped into the living quarters/house through an inside plumbing system.<br /><br />2. Pipe-borne outside: e.g. A standpipe either outside the compound or a public standpipe.<br /><br />3. Tanker supply: Water supplied by tankers<br /><br />4. Well: A hole sunk deep into the earth to reach the water table where water is collected.<br /><br />5. Bore-hole: Hand dug or drilled well with pump.<br /><br />6. Spring/rain water: Spring is where water gushes out from underground water sources or flows down slopes along rock or cliff surfaces. Rainwater is water collected into a container for use during rainfalls.<br /><br />7. River/stream: Water flowing from its sources to the downstream towards a specific direction.<br /><br />8. Dugout/pond/lake/dam: Where a surface area is dug for collection of rain water or hole in the ground with water in it or large sheet of water with land all round it or wall or bank built to keep back water..<br /><br />9. Other (specify): Any other sources of water not specified under 1 - 8.<br /></svar>
