<svar a="ID95A408" v="ID95A408 ID95A412"><span class="em">Question 309: Marital status of women age 10-54</span><br />This question is only asked to women age 10 or older. Question: "Has [the respondent] ever been married?" If the answer is "Yes", circle Code 1 and if "No", circle Code 2.<br /><br /><span class="em">Ever been married</span> is the marital status divorced or widowed.<br /><br /><span class="em">Married</span> is the status of those bonded in a marriage during enumeration, either living together or separated. In this matter, not only those who are legally wed (custom, religion, state, etc.) are counted but also those who are living together and [are] considered by the community to be husband and wife.<br /><br /><span class="em">Divorced</span> is the separation between husband and wife due to divorce, but without having remarried. Included in this category are those who admit to being divorced although legally [they] are not. On the contrary, those who have lived separately for some time are not considered to be divorced. Example: husband/wife left the spouse to [travel to] another place due to study, work, seeking work, or the husband and wife are in a fight.<br /><br /><span class="em">Widowed</span> is the status of a husband or wife having died, and [the surviving spouse has] not remarried.<br /></svar></p>
