Data file: SA Census 1996 Merged_v01
This data file was created by merging the household and person data files from the South African Census 1996, both of which are 10% samples of the full, original census.
Also contained in this data file is a household code ('hhid') which was generated by the distributor, DataFirst, using geographic information and the household number for each observation. This variable was used to merge the person and household data files. The data file also contains the variable 'peshhwei' (household weight) and 'pesphwei' (person weight) which was generated by Statistics South Africa to compensate for the census undercount. Please refer to the metadata on sampling for more information on these weighting variables
