    Series Information
    The survey has been conducted to measure the standards of living in Kyrgyz Republic to obtain a better estimation of poverty rates. It is designed to nationally represent the standards of living of each segment of population, and the poor in particular.
    Abstract
    Several micro-level socio-economic surveys have been carried out in Kyrgyzstan since the country's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. One of them, Household Budget Survey (HBS) was implemented annually by the National Statistical Committee from 1996 to 2003. After its last round in 2003, HBS was replaced with Kyrgyz Integrated Household Survey (KIHS). Along with the last wave of Household Budget Survey, the pilot implementation of Kyrgyz Integrated Household Survey was also carried out.

    For 2003 HBS, 1,081 households were surveyed.

    Kyrgyz Republic Household Budget Survey covered households' and respondents' characteristics, housing, consumption patterns and sources of income. The survey measured consumption-based poverty and analyzed socio-economic dimensions of people's living standards.
