<svar a="all" v="MY91A040"><span class="em">Question A8</span><br /><br />[Question A8 from the enumeration form is not presented here.]<br /><span class="em">Purpose</span><br />This question is to obtain information relating to the type of toilet facility used by the members of the LQ.<br /><br /><span class="em">Definition</span><br /><br />Types of toilet facility are as follows:<br /><br /><span class="ital">(i) Flush system (Code 1)</span><br />This type of toilet is fixed with a mechanical/automatic sewerage system. Human waste is flushed off with water by pressing or pulling the mechanical device.<br /><br /><span class="ital">(ii) Pour flush (Code 2)</span><br />This category differs from the mechanical pull-type in disposing off the waste. This pour flush type necessitates the user to pour waste into the sanitary bowl to dispose off the waste. It is also known as "Jamban Siram"<br /><br /><span class="ital">(iii) Bucket (Code 3)</span><br />This type uses a bucket to collect the waste. The bucket is portable and is usually cleaned by public/private authority.<br /><br /><span class="ital">(iv) Pit (Code 4)</span><br />This includes all pits dug into the ground to collect the human waste. They are commonly referred to as "<span class="lang">Jamban Siam</span>" or "<span class="lang">Jamban Lubang</span>". Cesspits should also be included under this category. <br /><br /><span class="pg">[p.81]</span><br /><br /><span class="ital">(v) Enclosed space over water (Code 5)</span><br />This is constructed over water so that the human waste fall direct into the water, i.e., it is constructed over drains, river, sea, pond, lake and swamps. This type of toilet should have a closed or semi-closed structure.<br /><br /><span class="ital">(vi) None (Code 6)</span><br />This includes all cases whereby the LQ does not have any toilet facility. The occupants of the LQ use swamps, river, bushes, etc. to dispose their human waste.<br /><br />How to ask the question<br /><div class="i1">Ask the question as follows:<br /><br /><span class="ital">"What is the type of toilet facility normally used by the members of the LQ?"</span></div><br /><br />How to record the answer<br /><div class="i2">Mark "X" in the relevant code box.</div><br />If the answer is code 6, you need not ask question A9.
