Income/Expenditure/Household Survey [hh/ies]
Romanian Household Budget Survey (HBS) is a multi-purpose nationally representative survey implemented by the National Institute of Statistics. The survey was first administered in April 1994 as Integrated Household Survey (IHS), and continued since. In 2001, IHS was replaced with Romanian Household Budget Survey.
The Household Budget Survey (HBS) is designed based on the European recommendations and standards. The HBS methodology differs from the one used in the Household Integrated Survey. The HBS is a continuous, quarterly survey. The sample consists of 9,360 permanent dwellings, distributed in independent monthly sub-samples of 3,120 permanent dwellings.
The survey collects information on household composition, income, expenditure, consumption and other aspects of population living standards.

The information is collected using a household questionnaire (administered in three visits by trained interviewers), complemented by a diary. The diary is used to help the household keep track of cash flows: incomes, expenditures, and savings.
The Household Budget Survey that replaced Integrated Household Survey in 2001 collects consumption information at a greater level of detail, similar with the structure used in the European Union.
