The KIHS has been conducted quarterly since its inception in 2003. The Integrated Household Survey has been conducted to measure the standard of living in the country at the beginning of the transition process in Kyrgyz Republic which helps obtain a better measure of poverty. It is designed to nationally represent the standard of living of each population in general, and the poor in particular. The survey covers the people from all parts of the society.
This Kyrgyz Integrated Household Survey- Migration Module (KIHS-MG) is a part of the official Kyrgyz Integrated Household Survey (KIHS) 2015 which is conducted quarterly. The KIHS is a rotating panel with a maximum of one quarter of the sample being replaced each year. In line with the Household Budget Survey, the KIHS is designed to measure consumption-based poverty in the country and to analyze the socio-economic dimensions of people's living standards.

Sampling
The sample of the KIHS is drawn using stratified two-stage random sampling, based on the results of the 1999 and 2009 population census. Each cross-section is designed to be representative at the national, rural/urban, and oblast levels.
