Definition
For women who gave birth in the last five years, DELCD1_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a nurse gave delivery care (for the last birth). This response category is country-specific to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Some samples in the "DEL" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

DELCD1_01 is combined with DELCD2_01 (midwife) for the 2007 and 2013 Democratic Republic of the Congo samples to create the standard variable DELNURM_01 (nurse/midwife). IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DELCD1_01 are encouraged to review DELNURM_01 for this more comprehensive response category.
