Description

Definition
For children born in the three to five years preceding the survey, DELML1 indicates whether an obstetrics nurse assisted with the child's delivery. This response category is country-specific to Mali.

Some samples in the "DEL" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

DELML1 is combined with DELML2 (other nurse) and DELML3 (midwife) for the 2006 Mali sample to create the standard variable DELNURM. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DELML1 are encouraged to review DELNURM for this more comprehensive response category.
