Description

Definition
For children with diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, DIATRNE4 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a private pharmacy. This response category is country-specific to Niger.

Some samples in the "DIATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

DIATRNE4 is combined with DIATRNE5 (Private dispensary) in DIATRPRIVDRUG (all private formal drug sources) for the 1992 Niger sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DIATRNE4 are encouraged to review DIATRPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.
