Description

Definition
NEWSBRIG serves as a bridging variable between two approaches to collecting information on exposure to newspapers and magazines. For DHS Phases 1-3, respondents were asked whether they read a newspaper or magazine at least once a week (NEWSWK (V109)). Beginning in DHS Phase 4, respondents were asked how often they read newspapers or magazines (NEWSFQ (V157)).

NEWSBRIG uses composite coding to combine data from these two approaches. See Comparability for more information.
