Description

Definition
For children born in the 3 to 5 years before the survey, VACROTA1 (H57) indicates whether the child has received the first in a series of rotavirus vaccinations. The rotavirus vaccination is given orally, often at the same time as DPT injections or polio drops. Rotavirus is a common cause of severe diarrhea and gastroenteritis in infants and young children.

The rotavirus vaccination primary series usually consists of either 2 or 3 administrations. The complementary variables VACROTA2 (H58) and VACROTA3 (H59) report the second and third administrations, respectively.

VACROTA1 uses composite coding, with a first digit of 2 indicating the child has been vaccinated and the second digit indicating the source of information (a dated entry on the vaccination card, an undated mark on the vaccination card, or the mother's report).
