Socio-Economic/Monitoring Survey [hh/sems]
The social and demographic data produced by BPS were gathered through Sensus Penduduk, Survei Penduduk Antar Sensus (Supas), Survei Angkatan Kerja Nasional (Sakernas), and Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (Susenas). Since 1992, basic data that has provided a picture of people's welfare were gathered each year through Susenas. From the available data/information each year, the progress of the developing program can be monitored and evaluated periodically.
Susenas is a survey that is designed to gather social demographic data on a relatively broad basis.
The gathered data are on several fields such as education, health/nutrition, housing/environment, criminal, social culture activities, consumption and household welfare, transportation and the society's opinion on their household welfare. In 1992, the system of Susenas data collection was renewed, the information which was used to design the welfare indicator (Kesra) inside the module (information gathered once every three years) was embodied into the core (information group gathered each year). Ever since, a set of data which is used to monitor the people's welfare standard, summarize the government's program which is particularly aimed to improve the welfare of certain sectors in the community, and analyze the impact on various programs on increasing the community's welfare is readily available at Susenas.
In the new Susenas core there are questions addressing condition and behavior of society members that are closely related to various welfare aspects, such as did they experience criminal acts, do they travel, are they still in school, do they experience health problems and how they maintain their health. Questions on the condition of under-fives, such as whom helped during labor, how long do they breastfeed and whether they obtain immunization is also accommodated in this core. In addition, Characteristics on education, and economy activities of household members are compiled. For married women, questions of at what age they were married, number of children and Family Planning behavior. Data concerning household matters such as the condition and facilities of housing and household consumption and expenditure were also compiled.
The information in the modules is collected alternately. In a three year period, the consumption module and household income are collected in the first year, household welfare module, social culture, travel and criminality in the second, and the health module, nutrition, education and housing in the third.
Information collected in the module are derived from more detailed questions compared to the questions for the same topic in the core. For example, if the education data that were collected through a core is limited to the level of education, the module is extended to include educational expenses. If questions in the core referred to travelling experience, questions in the module would refer to the nature and amount of expenditure of the travel.
The National Socio-Economic Survey provides data relating to socio-economic conditions of society including health, education, fertility, family planning, housing and other socio-economic conditions.
Data and indicators of the National Socio-Economic Survey have been widely used and regarded as one of the important evidence that can be useful for planning, monitoring and evaluation of government development programs.
The National Socio-Economic Survey meets the needs of the government, especially for providing data on the rate of poverty in a short time interval (from once a year to twice a year or more). Important changes in the organization National Socio-Economic Survey 2011 have been made and they continued until 2014. These changes include:
Data collection was conducted 4 (four) times a year, from the previous two (2) times a year.
The consumption data collection at all enumeration periods (to be able to produce a number of poverty level representative of the district/city). Previously, data collection was only once a year.
The National Socio-Economic Survey 2015 data collection uses two (2) types of questionnaires.
The data collected in 2015 for the National Socio-Economic Survey (Core) is published on an annual basis. While the results of the data collection in 2015 National Socio-Economic Survey Consumption and Expenditure is published in the March and September quarters.

The parent sample frame or the sampling frame of the main activity of SUSENAS 2016 is about 180,000 census blocks (25% of the population) drawn with a probability proportional to size (PPS) of households SP2010 from the master census block of 720 thousands.
SUSENAS sampling steps can be defined as follows:
Sampling Design
A. District Estimation
The sample was chosen by two stages one-stage stratified sampling method:
Stage 1: Selecting 25% population census blocks by Probability Proportional to Size (PPS), with size of household number of SP2010 in each strata.
Stage 2: Select a number of census blocks according to systematic allocation in each urban/rural strata per district/city per work strata.
Stage 3: Selecting 10 households by systematic sampling.
B. Province Estimation
Samples for Sakernas provincial estimates are subsamples of Sakernas district/city estimates and are selected using the two stages stratified sampling method as follows:
Stage 1: Selecting 7500 systematic sampling census blocks from 30000 estimated district/city census blocks according to allocation and considering distribution of samples per stratum at the district/city level.
